It's been awhile since I've posted for Illustration Friday. This is a digital illustration painted with Corel Painter in oils. It is for the book 'Stella Saves The Game' by Elizabeth Budd, published by Halo Publishing.
Illustration Friday topic - 'kernel', this is kind of obvious, but it fits. This is an illustration from a self-published children's book called 'Tom & Dina' by Marianne Mamola, Lifevest Publishing.
Tom is lovesick because Dina has been taken away; so he couldn't be bothered to chase mice.
A pencil drawing done quite a few years ago. If you're going to buy your kids a swing set, don't get one of those light metal ones, get a big, heavy, wooden set. Then they can swing really high and adults can swing also. Also while swinging wear rubber boots on your bare feet, then kick the boots off when you're at your highest and see if they'll fly into the neighbours yard.
IF topic puzzled. These cattle are puzzled as to why 2 moose are in their midst. This is an illustration from the book 'Legend of the Hula Moose', by Christine Taylor Sprowl Tetak. The story of 2 young moose who find themselves in a ship to Hawaii. See more pictures from this book on my website
IF topic - vocal. A singing grasshopper from the self-published book 'Locusts, Locusts Everywhere!' by Julie Brenes. Illustrated quite a few years ago in Photoshop, before I got Corel Painter. Check out my newer work on my website.
This is an illustration from a chapter book called 'Keep Out' by Helene Boudreau, Nimbus publishing. Every year little shore birds called Piping Plovers return to the beaches of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, to nest on the beaches. They're eggs are really vulnerable to predators so parks departments put wire cages around their nests to protect the eggs. The black lines are the wire. This was done in pencil.

I am a professional freelance illustrator. I primarily do children's illustration, but have also designed and illustrated graphic novels and book covers for all genres of books. I work for publishers, self-publishers and game/toy companies. I paint in Corel Painter, using the oil brushes so that they have a traditional look. I can work in a variety of styles, from high realism to cartoon. My fees are very reasonable and I do not ask for royalties from self-publishers and small publishers.
