IF kernel

Illustration Friday topic - 'kernel', this is kind of obvious, but it fits. This is an illustration from a self-published children's book called 'Tom & Dina' by Marianne Mamola, Lifevest Publishing.
Tom is lovesick because Dina has been taken away; so he couldn't be bothered to chase mice.

IF - Heights

A pencil drawing done quite a few years ago. If you're going to buy your kids a swing set, don't get one of those light metal ones, get a big, heavy, wooden set. Then they can swing really high and adults can swing also. Also while swinging wear rubber boots on your bare feet, then kick the boots off when you're at your highest and see if they'll fly into the neighbours yard.

IF - Return

This  is an illustration from a chapter book called 'Keep Out' by Helene Boudreau, Nimbus publishing. Every year little shore birds called Piping Plovers return to the beaches of Prince Edward Island  and Nova Scotia, to nest on the beaches. They're eggs are really vulnerable to predators so parks departments put wire cages around their nests to protect the eggs. The black lines are the wire. This was done in pencil.

IF swamp

Some critters having a chat down at the swamp. And it wouldn't be a swamp without mosquitoes - upper left. This is from a book I illustrated years ago called 'Counting On Friends' self-published by the author Diane Belinfanti. This was pre-digital, done in oils on illustration board. Nowadays I use oils in Corel Painter. The frog character is a favourite of mine that I use for my logo and banner.

IF Shades - black and white illustration

This is as close as I could get to this weeks topic 'shades'. This is more shading than shades. A pencil illustration I did for a cookbook called 'Canadian Recipes of the Great White North' by Chef Bari Demers. I did this many years ago but I still like it because I made this cabin up, and it's my dream cabin; where it's always warm and there are no mosquitoes or blackflies. Done in pencil.

This was drawn in pencil, scanned then painted in Corel painter.
I'm finally getting back to posting on IF after a long time away. I meant to post last week when the word was Intention, because I intend to get back to posting; so my intention was to post last week but I never got around to it.
